The One Guaranteed Trick to Get Your Writing More Views
You need to be more controversial
A lot of us are too nice. We make our writing look pretty and neat, but we also hold back from what we want to say. We might think to ourselves, "oh, we can't write that; it's too opinionated or controversial."
Despite these doubts, we should all toy with the idea of being more controversial once in a while, as long as it's for the right reasons and isn't a trashy article that incentivises misinformation.
Writing online is like waging a constant battle for attention. But as long as you back up your title with the body of your article, you can't go wrong with having a controversial headline.
Here's how it worked out for me recently.
Some essential background
I've never been good at writing titles or headlines. It's the bit I struggle with the most. I can easily bang out over a thousand words in half an hour if I'm in the right mindset. But headlines?
I can't think of anything worse to write.
I struggle to sum up my thoughts in just a few words but have those captivate the attention of others. I know my bad headlines are perhaps holding me back from getting the views I deserve, but I still suck at them.
