I barely write specifically for my blog anymore - but merely use it as a portfolio for my work - purely because the views were so bad. I think I made £0.11 in a year too haha.

It depends on the publication and how they do things - but I've submitted pieces to publications, had solid feedback about how to improve the piece - and then resubmitted for eventual publication!
